In art school they would make us practice with gouache.  I never thought of using it for completed paintings. We would have to fill sketch books with colour and value studies, we used it for colour wheels and still lives, I kind of hated it.

Recently I started to use it   again in my sketches and small paintings. I find that it’s very striking and vibrant, especially if you approach the painting with a lot of intention and leave white space like you would with watercolour. The final painting ends up looking bright, saturated and punchy.
